PDF to Word

Convert PDF to Word (DOCX) online for free. FilZap rebuilds your PDF as a fully editable Microsoft Word document, keeping paragraphs, tables, fonts, and page layout in place — no signup, no watermark, and every file is deleted automatically within one hour.

  1. Upload your PDF file (up to 25 MB).
  2. FilZap converts it to an editable .docx document.
  3. Download your Word file — it is auto-deleted after 1 hour.

What actually gets converted

FilZap does a structural conversion rather than dropping a picture of each page into Word. Text becomes real editable text, tables are rebuilt as Word tables you can add rows to, and fonts, colours, and alignment are carried across. Vector graphics and inline images are captured too, so diagrams and logos survive the trip. The result opens natively in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice Writer, and Apple Pages.

Scanned PDFs will not work — and FilZap tells you so

This is the single most common reason a PDF-to-Word conversion disappoints. If your PDF came from a scanner or a phone camera, each page is just an image, and there is no text inside the file to extract. FilZap checks for extractable text before converting and stops with a clear message instead of handing you an empty document. To convert a scanned PDF, first run it through an OCR tool to produce a searchable PDF, then convert that here.

Where layout fidelity has limits

Straightforward documents — reports, contracts, letters, papers, invoices — convert very cleanly. Heavily designed files are harder: magazine spreads, multi-column layouts with pull quotes, and pages built from overlapping text boxes may need tidying once opened, because PDF stores absolute positions rather than the flowing structure Word expects. Expect to spend a minute adjusting a complex brochure; expect a clean result from a normal document.

Frequently asked questions

Is the PDF to Word converter free?

Yes. FilZap converts PDF to Word completely free with no account, no watermark, and no email required. There is no page limit and no trial.

Will my formatting be preserved?

FilZap keeps text, paragraphs, tables, fonts, and most layout intact so you can edit the document right away in Word, Google Docs, or LibreOffice. Very complex multi-column or magazine-style layouts may need small adjustments.

Why does my scanned PDF fail to convert?

A scanned PDF contains images of pages, not text, so there is nothing to convert into editable Word content. FilZap detects this and tells you rather than returning a blank file. Run the PDF through an OCR tool first to make it searchable, then convert it here.

Can I edit the Word file afterwards?

Yes — that is the point. The output is a standard .docx with real text and real tables, so you can rewrite paragraphs, change styles, and add rows exactly as you would in any Word document.

Are password-protected PDFs supported?

No. Encrypted PDFs cannot be read without the password, so the conversion will fail. Remove the password in your PDF reader first, then upload the unprotected file.

What is the maximum PDF size?

25 MB per file. Long text-only documents compress well and usually fit comfortably; if yours is larger, split it into sections and convert them separately.

Are my files safe?

Files are processed on our servers and permanently deleted within one hour by an automatic cleanup job. We never read, share, or sell their contents.
